HISTORY 

Allindia women’s conference Mysore branch was established in the year 1930, with the main objective of overall development of Women.
The branch was started under the President ship of Rajkumari Smt.Leeladevi Basavaraju  and Smt.K.D.Rukminiyamma as secretary.
Initially children clinic and night schools were started in 8 villages in order to provide health and adult education. 
In 1950, Smt.Yashodaramma Dasappa took over as President and was successful in motivating patriotism among Women by Charaka training programmes
Smt.Rukminiamma, P.S.Venkamma, A.B. Lakshmamma, Yashodaramma Dasappa, Sushilabai and Leelavathi Anjanappa worked for the team development of the branch, till 1962.
    Smt.Anandi Bai Prasad became the President in the year 1963. 
The Urban family Welfare Centre was started under her leadership as a grant in aid from the government.  The centre is catering successfully to under privileged sections of the society in Mandimohalla, Mysore.

    

From the past 52 years Smt.K.S.Nagarathnamma, well known politician of Karnataka worked for the Mysore branch as the President from 1968-1978. 
Smt.Sowndaryamma Venkatesh, first lady president of Mysore Corporation, also served from 1978 to 1983.
Smt.Anandi Bai Prasad was the President Smt.Dakshayani became the Treasurer .
Smt.Anandi Bai was elected as the President for the second time in 1985.  During this period 6 creches were started in slum and rural areas like  Mandimohalla, Shivapura, Gowrishankaranagara, Duddugere, Dattagalli and Palya.
Smt.Ananda bai was instrumental  in procuring a site of its own in 1922,measuring 106x208.
Smt.Rajashri Grupadaswamy took over the President ship in the year 1993.  Smt.Nagamma Kempegowda and Dr.Kamala Raman were Vice-Presidents.  Smt.Rathna Urs was the Secretary.
Smt.Jayalakshmi Marichamaiah was the Joint Secretary.  During this period, a permanent building was constructed with twelve lakh fifty thousand rupees aid from Central Government and two lakh fifty thousand rupees from the State Government and three lakh rupees from the organization.  The year 1995 Working Women Hostel was started for 40 members



The Family Counseling Centre was established in the year 1995.  The Centre which is run by Central Government aid has been able to register and settle three thousand complaints which are appreciated.  The F.C.C. building was constructed in 2009 with aid of three lakh rupees M.P.Fund of Sri.Vijaya Shankar and  loan of five lakh rupees from Women’s Credit Co-operative Society.  The Society was  provided place for its work on lease basis.  A Crèches was built in Shivapura Village in the year 2000 with aid from Shri Shri Shri Kantadatta Wodeyar’s M.P.Fund in 2005, a women helpline by name “Santhwaana”  was established in Nanjangud.  And about one thousand three hundred cases have been settled.  The A.I.W.C.      Branch has conducted for about 52 health and legal aid camps and awareness training programmes for women and children.
Awareness programmes related to female foeticide,H.I.V,AIDS, etc was also conducted. Service activities like distribution of food, clothes and monetary help have glowed faces of mentally retarded people, leprosy patients, tsunami victims etc.  On the occasion of 75th anniversary, 3 month training programmes  like Kasoothi, embroidery work, doll making, razai and foot rugs making was undertaken for the women Jail Inmates.
     Awareness programmes on health and law was conducted for to bring them back to normal society.  In 2010, we also conducted eight sarala vivaha ‘mantra maangalya ‘from our branch.
     There are a thousand life members in the branch.  During the election held for March 2007-2012, twenty directors have been elected.


Dr.Kamala Raman as the President, Dr.Rathna Urs as Standing Committee Member, Smt.Jayalakshmi Marichamaiah  as the Secretary, Smt.Pushpa Iyengar as Treasurer, Smt.Sharada Vishwanath and Smt.Hemalatha as Vice-Presidents, Dr.manonmani and Smt.Jayamangala as joint Secretary, Dr.Chitramahesh, Smt.Vanaja, Smt.Jayalakshmi Urs, Smt.Shalinichari, Smt.Shivamma, Smt.Gowramma, Smt.Jasavanthi, Smt.Meenakshi, Smt.Susheela Nanjappa, Smt.Padma Anjaneya, Smt.Dayamanidevi, Smt.Jayalakshmi Ramegowda have been elected as directors.  The Office Bearers and Executive Committee Members have been Instrumental for the success of these programmes.
     There are thirty-two administrative office staff working on regular basis, the patrons, the donors, officers, life time members, elected representatives, Central Social Welfare Board Chairman Bangalore and administrative staff are also responsible for the community based programmes to be successful.
The guidance, encouragement and co-operation from our head office of All Inida Women’s Conference New Delhi and legal advisor Captain Annapoorna, and Zonal Organizer Smt.Gowri Adiyodi, Vice-President Smt.Shanthadas are also highly appreciable.
     During June 2011 one of our A.I.W.C. Branch “Karuna Mahila Sangatane was started at Krishnarajanagara, under the leadership of Smt.Shobha Urs.  At the outset a ‘Shishu Palana Kendra’ has been started.  And I am happy to say that the Centre is running successfully.
In 2010 a destitute home by name ‘Tavaru’ was started without any government grant, and 18 women were benefited.
We are extremely happy to say that the organization is running successfully for the welfare of women and children from the past eighty-two years.

AIWC MYSORE ZONE ಅಖಿಲ ಭಾರತ ಮಹಿಳಾ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನ ,ಮೈಸೂರು


ORIGIN

In 1927, under the guidance of Ms. Margaret Cousins the AIWC was established for the welfare of women and children. It is a Non-Government Organization.
Later, Smt. Sarojini Naidu, Smt. Vijaylakshmi Singh and Smt. Lakshmi Raghuramaiah, through their dedication, the AIWC and its activities were spread across the country.
In 1930, Smt. Rajkumari Leelavathi took the initiative of establishing a branch in Mysore.
Later, Smt. Yashodamma Dasappa, Smt. Leelavathi Anjanappa, Smt. Soundaryamma Venkatesh, Smt. K.S. Nagarathnamma, Smt. Anandbaye Prasad, Smt. Rajashree Gurupadaswamy, have all individually contributed their best in founding and establishing the Mysore Branch.
With the blessings and support of various likeminded organizations, the AIWC has established itself as a full fledge social welfare organization.
Among various services provided by the AIWC, the five prominent services are,

FAMILY WELFARE CENTRE

Through this centre the IAWC is providing free health care facilities to poor women, children and free health checkup services for pregnant women. Free polio vaccination for children and medicines are being provided under this centre. Free awareness programs are being conducted on regular basis to general public on HIV/AIDS, TB and other contagious diseases. Also regular programs are being conducted on family planning awareness.

CRECHES

This centre was established in 1980 with the intention of providing Free Education, Nutritious Food, Health care facilities and Educative-Entertainment programs on regular basis with the support from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Government of India. The AIWC is supporting six crèches in Mysore, under which there are around 150 Children who are directly gaining the benefits.

FAMILY COUNSELLING CENTRE

Under this centre the Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Advocates, Police Officers, Counselors, Senior Social Workers and other volunteers of the AIWC are actively providing services to couples with family disputes/ conflicts, by facilitating them with individual counseling at the right time.
Also the AIWC provides temporary shelter and rehabilitation facilities to destitute women with various difficulties in their lives. With the support of the Ministry of Social Welfare, the AIWC is actively providing free Family Counseling, Legal aid and Health care facilities to women on regular basis.
From past 12 years, around 5000 cases relating to family affairs have been settled and also, the AIWC has supported Inter-Caste Marriages, Simple Marriages and Marriage Registration facilities are being provided through this centre.

SANTWANA

The AIWC is conducting State Government sponsored programs. Under this program the rural poor and illiterate women with various problems are facilitated by providing remedies through Legal-aid, Counseling, Temporary shelter, Self employment opportunities and education.
The main aim of this program is to empower women and make them self sufficient.

HOSTEL FACILITIES FOR WORKING WOMEN AND STUDENTS

In 1996 with the financial support from both the Central and the State Governments, a full fledge hostel building was constructed for the benefit of working women and students at ‘K’ Block Kuvempunagar, Mysore. At present there are around 50 women inmates in the hostel who are benefiting at a reasonable fare, including food and other essential facilities for women. Also there are room facilities available for women guests visiting for a short period.
